What's annoying is that I pay my environmental tax to the govt. up front on my car and it's the same whether I drive a lot or a little. I think there should be a bit of an incentive to drive less e.g. if you drive less than X km's a year, you get a tax break. Unfortunately though, public transport here is horrible in my opinion. The cost of using public transport on a purely monetary level is not cheaper than driving. Taking the bus to work is not an option for lots of people. How long do you think it will be until they change that? Man, you did 12 KM in a week? I do just 54 MILES commute daily... sucks.
